What did the authorities find in Sintești after Monday's descents. Fines of almost 700,000 lei

The National Environmental Guard, together with the Romanian Police and the Romanian Gendarmerie, carried out large-scale controls on Monday, checking the networks involved in the illegal storage, burning and recovery of waste in the town of Sinteşti, Ilfov county, and in the adjacent areas. In total, fines of almost 700,000 lei were issued and 136 tons of waste were confiscated. Also, two criminal complaints were filed, according to News.ro.

“The area has been monitored by the authorities since the beginning of the year, and for over a month, the commissioners of the National Environmental Guard have permanently monitored the area with the help of the drones provided, accumulating 65 flight hours and documenting the waste transport routes, illegal storage areas, arson activities and the circuits through which the resulting materials were subsequently used. With the help of the coordinates established by the drone and the information provided through the collaboration protocols concluded with ANCPI, the Romanian Police and DRPCIV, the owners of the land and the vehicles involved in the illegal activities were identified”, the National Environmental Guard announced on Monday evening.

The institution specifies that, following the monitoring, measures were ordered before Monday's openings, namely 10 contraventional sanctions in the total amount of 60,000 lei applied to the owners of the lands where illegal waste storage was identified, a fine of 45,000 lei applied to Vidra City Hall for not taking measures to clean up 19 plots of land and a criminal complaint for illegal burying of waste.

Following the controls carried out on Monday, another 10 contravention fines were imposed in the total amount of 555,000 lei and a new criminal complaint was drawn up for illegal burning of waste.

Commissioners confiscated:

  • 24 tons of aluminum, estimated at approximately 216,000 lei;
  • 10 tons of copper, estimated at approximately 520,000 lei;
  • 1 ton of metal materials, estimated at approximately 1,150 lei;
  • 6 tons of car batteries and accumulators, estimated at approximately 16,800 lei.

Also, 31 vehicles loaded with materials from illegal activities were seized for confiscation:

  • 51 tons of copper, estimated at approximately 2,652,000 lei;
  • 40 tons of aluminum, estimated at approximately 360,000 lei;
  • 10 tons of brass, estimated at approximately 280,000 lei.

“The National Environmental Guard, together with the key institutions of the MAI, also controlled the documents that the owners of ferrous material transport equipment produced, through checks at the source. We have well-founded suspicions of the use of false documents, which is why we will submit new criminal complaints. Sinteşti remains one of the most problematic areas in the vicinity of the Capital in terms of fires caused for the recovery of metals and illegal waste management”, the Guard officials also say of the Environment.
