Roskomnadzor does not collect IP addresses of users of telecom operators, such data is not transmitted, the department said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Izvestia newspaper wrote that the agency had fined 85 telecom operators for failing to provide data on subscribers’ IP addresses—this information is needed to prevent DDoS attacks.
“In connection with false publications that have appeared in the media, we inform you that the department does not collect IP addresses of users of telecom operators. In accordance with Roskomnadzor Order No. 51 of February 28, 2025, telecom operators provide data on IP addresses that the telecom operator assigns to the equipment used by it and its users on the network,” Roskomnadzor said.
They explained that data about the ownership of this equipment or IP addresses by a specific user, that is, data about users, is not transmitted to the department, and such data is not collected.
“We remind the media of the need to check published information, including statements by experts,” the department added.
