How the local projects financed by PNRR will be selected for completion. Term given to mayors by Prime Minister Bolojan

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, together with Deputy Prime Minister Cătălin Predoiu and Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare, had a video conference with prefectures in which the mayors were given a deadline to present data related to the implementation of the projects they run with funds from the PNRR, data according to which the projects that will remain on the grant component of the Plan will be selected.
The selection process will include 5,300 contracts from the PNRR that are run by local administrations.
“Prime Minister Bolojan asked the prefects to mobilize as urgently as possible and to get involved for the smooth running of the projects being implemented at the level of local authorities, especially in the fields of development, environment and education, financed from the grant component, so that they are completed by the end of August, and Romania does not lose the allocated funds”, according to a statement from the Government.
What the Government wants to know from the mayors
For projects that cannot be completed on time, the option of transferring them to the loan component of PNRR will be considered.
“Following the discussions, it was decided that the town halls should transmit complete and verifiable information regarding the degree of execution of the projects, the date of the start of the works, the estimated terms of completion, the settled amounts, the graphs assumed by the builders and images from the field”, states the cited source.
The deadline for submitting this data is May 26, 3 p.m., in the form of a standardized form.
Another topic discussed was the acceleration of the verification of payment requests, so that eligible and advanced projects can be settled in a timely manner.
“The dialogue with the representatives of the prefectures took place in the context in which some components of the PNRR are still under negotiation with the European Commission, including the adjustment of some objectives to a realistic level of fulfillment,” the statement also says.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met, on Saturday, with the mayors of Iași county, on which occasion he said that the analysis of the PNRR projects that will remain on the grant component, of non-reimbursable money, is being done.
“Those that can be completed by the end of August should remain on the grant component, because if they remain there and are not finished, Romania will lose the amount related to the entire project, even if it is 90% completed, and those that cannot be completed should be transferred to the loan component, where, of course, we will lose only what cannot be completed, and the difference will be covered from the national budget or from the local budget, so that, on on the one hand, let's finish the projects and have no losses for our country”, explained the interim prime minister.
