“The rates will enter in force in the near future. Because, as you know, as we have done with steel, cars and aluminum, which are already in force, we will do the same with semiconductors, chips and many other products ”Trump said aboard the Air Force One presidential plane, while returning to Washington in Florida, where he spent his weekend.
Donald Trump said the US wants to produce their own chips and semiconductors, as well as other important goods, such as pharmaceuticals, which he also said that he will tax.
“We want to produce our medicines in this country and, by imposing tariffs for companies that are not in this country, we will produce our medicines in the United States, so that, in case of war or anything, we do not be addicted to China or other countries,” added the US president.
When asked what specific fee will apply to its semiconductor imports, Trump only replied that he will announce 'the coming week'.
At the same time, he also said that his government would talk to American companies, such as Apple, about applying tariffs for their phones, tablets or computers. “You have to show a certain flexibility,” he added.
The commercial war triggered by President Donald Trump intensified on April 2 with the announcement of 'mutual rates' for the rest of the world, a measure that he then rectified, a week later, in the face of the market decrease and the increase in US debt financing.
While attenuated its offensive to most countries by applying a 10%generalized tariff, in China, Trump decided to increase taxes because Beijing responded with reprisals. Thus, Washington has imposed a total rates of 145% of Chinese imports, while Beijing increased its tariffs for American products to 125%.
