A foreigner tried to illegally export red deer antlers from Krasnoyarsk

25 May 17:12

Red deer antlers were seized by Krasnoyarsk customs officers from a 55-year-old foreigner flying to Dushanbe (Tajikistan).

The man was stopped in the “green” corridor during a random check. When scanning his hand luggage, the inspector found objects resembling body parts of an artiodactyl animal.

“It turned out that in the travel bag the air passenger was carrying 6 deer antlers with a total weight of almost 6 kg. The man explained that he had found fragments of a wild animal in the forest. He didn’t know that they needed to be declared,” the customs press service said.

The examination confirmed that these are derivatives of the red deer of the Cervidae family, and they fall under the scope of the CITES Convention.

Two cases were opened against the violator under Part 1 of Article 16.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (non-declaration of goods) and Art. 16.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (non-compliance with prohibitions and restrictions). The sanctions of the articles include fines and confiscation of goods.
