đź’”500 students stopped the 4,000-strong rush to Kyiv: today is the 107th anniversary of the Battle of Kruty.
The battle lasted 6 hours, the Krutians destroyed the railway and won 4 days to sign the Peace of Brest – international recognition of the UNR. This is a story about tragedy and heroism: retreating to Kyiv, one student platoon got lost and accidentally ran into the Bolsheviks. The boys were tortured and then executed. One of the Ukrainian soldiers, Hryhoriy Pipsky from Halychyna, before the execution itself sang the national anthem of Ukraine, the chant was picked up by others, and then shots rang out.
This is a century-old war. And each one yielding to the enemy now costs another such battle again and again in the next hundred years. Let's remember this. Honor to the heroesđź•Ż
