The Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery (NORSI) stopped the operation of its main primary oil refining unit after a Ukrainian drone attack on May 20. This was reported by Reuters, citing two sources in the oil industry.
NORSI is Russia's fourth largest oil refinery and the country's second largest gasoline producer – it can process 16 million metric tons of oil per year, which is equivalent to approximately 320 thousand barrels per day, the publication notes.
According to Reuters sources, the shutdown of the unit, which provides more than half of the plant's total capacity, could lead to a sharp reduction in production, which would add “even more uncertainty to the Russian energy sector” and the fuel supply situation. The publication also reported that in recent days, almost all large oil refineries in Central Russia were forced to stop or reduce production after attacks by Ukrainian drones.
