A US aircraft carrier group approached Cuba. What's next?

An American carrier strike group has arrived in the Caribbean, the US South American and Caribbean Command (SOUTHCOM) announced in X.

It includes the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz with the 17th air wing based on it, the destroyer USS Gridley and the auxiliary vessel USNS Patuxent.

“This is the embodiment of combat readiness and military presence, unrivaled range and combat power, as well as strategic advantage,” the command said.

US President Donald Trump yesterday announced “help for the Cubans.”

“This is a failed state. But I can say one thing: we are ready to help,” he told reporters, adding that Cubans “have been waiting for this moment for 65 years.”

Politico, analyzing options for the development of events in Cuba, writes that the White House is considering both diplomatic and military avenues of intervention. However, Trump has not yet made a final decision, a source in Washington told the publication.

The US State Department also published a message from its head, Marco Rubio, to the Cuban people in Spanish. He accused the island nation's authorities of corruption and proposed a “new path” for Cubans.

“The only role of the so-called government is to demand further sacrifices from you and to persecute anyone who dares to express dissatisfaction. President Trump is proposing a new relationship between the United States and Cuba,” he said.
