One week after the outbreak of violent protests against Romanian immigrants from Northern Ireland, Minister Emil Hurezeanu said they are “revolting”. He spoke about the subject, after being asked by journalists, at the end of the government meeting.

“There are two things that can be said here or two categories of information that can be given. The Romanian Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland already ensures communication with the authorities, already, from the head of the crisis. The reasonable limits so that their eventual support is not instrumentalized by the guilty, ”said Minister Emil Hurezeanu, in his first reaction about the violence in Northern Ireland.

“We are aware of what is happening, we provide protection, we provide permanent information and communication between the authorities of the Foreign Ministry on the spot, the Embassy in London, consulted and the respective community,” said Emil Hurezeanu, at the end of the Government meeting.

The same explanation was received by Hotnews, after publishing a report from the scene, from Ballymena, in which the action of the Philippine ambassador was described.

“Episodes of revolt related to insufficient integration in the respective societies”

Asked how the pictures with the protests in Northern Ireland seemed, Hurezeanu replied: “Revain, unfortunately.”

“Because we are witnessing these episodes of revolt, episodes that, of course, have several causes in the background, which are related to insufficient integration in the respective societies, of manifestations, to say, of anger that go to the dissatisfaction and to a flagrant dissatisfaction that manifests through the violation of the laws. Tensions and between foreigners, not only between locals and foreigners.

The minister was asked by journalists if they are Romanian from Northern Ireland who have applied for consular assistance or to be brought to the country.

“There have been these requests, they are centralized at the Romanian Embassy in London, at the General Consultes and they are to be ran,” said the Romanian Foreign Minister.

What the scandal on the spot looks like

A Hotnews team went to the city of Ballymena in Northern Ireland to see the effects, but also the causes of violent protests that broke out against immigrants, after a teenager accused of rape two Romanian citizens.

At least 200 Roma families, coming from Romania, left from the northern Ireland for fear of violence, after their houses were burned. Others sleep in parking, fear. Not the ambassador of Romania, but the one of the Philippines came to speak to their citizens, in a meeting I attended.

Over 50 houses have been affected by violent protests in Northern Ireland of the last week, some were burned, others have been chosen with broken windows or other damage. Most were inhabited by migrants. 14 families were evacuated and accommodated by authorities to other places.
