US reveals losses of planes and drones in war with Iran

During the US military operation against Iran (OEF), the US army lost 42 air assets. This is indicated in the report of the Congressional Audit Service, published on the parliament website.

The Pentagon has not published a comprehensive assessment of combat losses in Iran, the document notes. The costs of the military operation, according to the department, reached $29 billion, a significant part of the increase is associated with rising costs for repairs or replacement of equipment.

The 42 aircraft listed include planes, helicopters and drones, and the document lists the dates of the crashes according to military reports. These include four F-15E Strike Eagle fighters, one F-35A Lightning II, an A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft and seven KC-135 Stratotanker tankers. Also listed as losses were two MC-130J Commando II special operations aircraft and an E-3 Sentry airborne early warning and control system (AWACS).

The list includes one helicopter (HH-60W Jolly Green II), 24 MQ-9 Reaper drones and one MQ-4C Triton drone.

Congress admits that the Pentagon did not provide legislators with a complete report on air force losses, but the release of such data “could give an idea of the survivability of American aviation in the face of counteraction.”
