Several unaffiliated MPs elected on the AUR, SOS, POT and PSD lists joined the PNL group. Bolojan: “We have an interesting situation”

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan commented on the fact that several unaffiliated parliamentarians, initially elected on the AUR, SOS, POT and PSD lists, have joined the PNL parliamentary group in recent days.

Invited to the News Pass show from the B1 TV station, Ilie Bolojan explained that the current situation in the Parliament is atypical, with a large number of elected officials who no longer belong to the formations on which they were voted.

The PNL leader does not see a problem in this move, as long as those who join the party are “bona fide“.

“As you know, I did not encourage political pathism, but we have an interesting situation in the Romanian Parliament in which 10%, at least, of the parliamentarians are no longer on the lists on which they were voted in 2024. Therefore, there is a rather important number, so 50 parliamentarians. In the situation where some of these parliamentarians held talks with our county organizations and agreed on a collaboration, they are people in good order”.

Ilie Bolojan also explained what he answered to his colleagues who asked him questions on this topic:

“I told them: if you get along and people don't have any problems, I don't see why we can't collaborate. The worst situation is to have a large group of MPs who are not affiliated anywhere, because they are a factor that does not generate predictability in Parliament.”

Asked if the liberals offered them something in exchange for their support, the PNL leader categorically rejected this hypothesis.

“I don't think that when you join a party or decide to collaborate in one form or another you have to necessarily do it if you get something. (…) There was no question of such discussions and I personally do not agree with this kind of approach“, said the PNL president.

According to the liberal leadership, the integration of these parliamentarians aims to increase stability in the Legislature, at a time when the number of unaffiliated elected officials had become “a factor of unpredictability”.
