New tax on windfall profits. Orlen and Unimot will pay

The government's list of legislative works includes details of a new tax – the so-called windfall tax. These are extraordinary profits from the production and marketing of certain liquid fuels.
The basis for taxation with the windfall tax will be the surplus of the taxpayer's revenues from the sale of liquid fuels over the amount of revenues in this respect that would be achieved by this taxpayer using its average liquid fuel sales margin from 2025 increased by 20%.
The tax rate is proposed to be 75%. tax base determined in this way, which proportionally reflects the scale of unexpected benefits, while leaving the taxpayer the opportunity to dispose of the remaining part of the extraordinary profit.
Orlen and Unimot will pay the new tax
“The records are imprecise, but at the moment our preliminary estimate indicates that if the current macro is maintained until the end of the year, WFT in Orlen could amount to PLN 6 billion (PLN 5.2 per share), and in Unimot PLN 60-200 million (PLN 7-24 per share)” – points out Michał Kozak in Trigon DM's daily report, the content of which is quoted by PAP.
The expert calculates that theoretically, the upper tax limit in the sector in 2026 may be PLN 14.4 billionas the total loss of budget revenues due to reduced VAT and excise duty on fuels in the period March-December 2026 (PLN 1.6 billion per month).
