While the focus is on Ousmane Dembele's recovery and 'muscular discomfort in his right calf', PSG have received another big piece of news ahead of their Champions League final against Arsenal.
Achraf Hakimi, who suffered a thigh injury near the end of the 5-4 Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern on April 28, will resume collective training this week, just over three weeks after the injury, according to L'Équipe.
If there is no relapse, the Moroccan defender will be an option for the first eleven against Arsenal in their bid to win a second consecutive Champions League for the Parisian club.
Achraf Hakimi, easier recovery than in the fall
The management of this injury was considerably simpler than the one sustained in the fall. Then, a serious sprain also suffered against Bayern, on November 4, in the groups of the Champions League (1-2), put his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in jeopardy.
After a recovery process carried out, in turn, in Paris, Murcia and Rabat, Hakimi managed to return in time, choosing not to have surgery.
The 27-year-old returned to action in Morocco's third CAN match on December 29 against Zambia (3-0), but needed several weeks to regain physical and mental fitness.
This time, the recovery took place entirely at the training center in Poissy, without additional travel. Although the first medicals caused concern, PSG was able to plan a gradual return to reduce the risks.
After the injury, the club officially said: “Injured following a right thigh injury during the match against Bayern, Achraf Hakimi will remain under treatment for the coming weeks.“
Problems for Luis Enrique ahead of the final
Hakimi's return also raises questions over Warren Zaire-Emery's role in the final against Arsenal.
With Fabian Ruiz back in midfield, Hakimi is expected to resume his place in defense. Thus, Zaire-Emery, one of the most used players by Luis Enrique this season, could start the game on the bench.
The Spanish coach recently spoke about the importance of the reserves and praised the young Frenchman: “I love this player and this person so much. It is a true example. What a level! No matter where he plays, it's important to the team.“
However, there is also the possibility that Hakimi may not be ready to sustain the pace of a final for the full 90 minutes.
The defender's situation is closely monitored by the Moroccan national team, especially in the context of the upcoming World Championship and the friendly match with Brazil, scheduled for the night of June 13 to 14. The medical teams of PSG and the Moroccan national team are constantly collaborating to ensure that Hakimi is fit for the final without compromising his participation in the final tournament.
