An undeveloped county road is blocking the opening of the newest section of the Moldovei Highway. The connection with E85 would be a real danger

A section of approximately 22 kilometers from Autostrada Moldovei, between Adjud and Răcăciuni, although it is almost completed, cannot be opened to traffic. The reason is the lack of a safe and functional connection with the national road DN2/E85, essential for entering and exiting the motorway.

On the approximately 22 kilometers between Adjud and Răcăciuni, the asphalt is already poured, and road markings have been applied. However, the section cannot be opened to traffic because there is no temporary relief, either a road junction or the connecting shoulder, to allow vehicles to safely exit onto the DN2 (E85), one of the busiest roads in the east of the country.
In the absence of this connection, the highway “ends up in the field”which would make its normal and safe use impossible.
The opening of the segment is also conditioned by the progress of the works on Lot 3 Răcăciuni – Bacău, the natural continuation of the route. This is at a lower stage of execution, estimated at around 65–70%, while Lot 2 is much more advanced.
The constructor UMB is mobilized on the construction site, but the difference in pace between the two batches creates a logistical blockage: without continuity towards Bacău, the partial opening of the Adjud – Răcăciuni section remains problematic.
Safety issues at DN2 and Răcăciuni
A temporary option to exit the highway in the Răcăciuni area was discussed, but it is considered risky from the point of view of road safety. DN2 is heavily trafficked, and major blockages could occur at certain times.
Representatives of the infrastructure communities also point to problems in the area, including the level crossing with the railway on the DN2.
According to them, the frequently active rail barriers could lead to significant delays and an increased risk of accidents if motorway traffic was temporarily diverted at this point.
“There is a rail barrier on DN2 with heavy passenger, freight and military train traffic. Blockages can last between 3 and 10 minutes and significant queues would form under certain conditions”representatives of the community “Autostrada Moldovei A7” signaled.
Therefore, until these issues are resolved, the 22 kilometers of highway remain completed on paper and in the field, but closed to traffic.
