The jury of the prestigious theater award will come to Krasnoyarsk for the musical “Shadow Fighting”

Members of the jury of the National Theater Award “Golden Mask” will come to Krasnoyarsk to watch the musical “Shadow Fighting”. The show will take place on June 8 at 19:00 on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theater named after Dmitry Hvorostovsky.

The musical “Fighting with a Shadow” is based on the play “Shadow” by Evgeniy Schwartz. The plot is based on the story of a young scientist who finds himself in a city where hypocrisy and fear reign. Having sent his Shadow to his beloved Princess, the hero is faced with the fact that his dark side gains independence and begins to live by its own rules. The play explores the theme of a person’s internal struggle with his own desires and fears.

The stage director is Gemma Avetisyan, chief director of the Krasnoyarsk Musical Theatre. The composer was Arthur Baido (Moscow), the author of the libretto was Sergey Plotov (Moscow). Stage conductor – Valery Shelepov, production designer – Ekaterina Malinina (St. Petersburg), choreographer – Artyom Ignatiev.

The performance passed a multi-stage selection by the expert council of the National Theater Award and received the status of a Golden Mask nominee.

Previously, the screening of the musical “Shadow Fighting” was planned on the stage of the Mossovet Theater in Moscow as part of the Golden Mask festival on April 6, but was cancelled. Now, with the assistance of the Directorate of the National Prize and the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Musical Theater will present the performance to the jury in its native Krasnoyarsk.

“During our stay in Moscow, we received enormous organizational support from the Golden Mask festival and the management of the Beijing Hotel. And it was all the more gratifying for us to learn that the festival management and our regional ministry will help us hold a screening for the jury in Krasnoyarsk. We are especially grateful to our close colleagues from the Opera House, who also promptly and with understanding met us halfway and found a date for the show. The difficult situation showed even more clearly how close-knit we are as a team and that in a difficult situation we can count on a helping hand and support from our professional environment and the founder,” shared the director of the Krasnoyarsk Musical Theater Olga Romanova.

Let us remind you that the “Golden Mask” is a Russian national theater award and festival established by the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation in 1993. The goal of the project is to celebrate the best theatrical works of the season in all genres. To participate in this season, 789 applications were received from 83 regions of Russia from eight federal districts. This year's festival schedule included a record number of performances – 68 of them, 16 from Moscow, 16 from St. Petersburg and another 40 from the regions.

The winners of the season will be announced on June 20 at the solemn ceremony in Omsk, the cultural capital of Russia in 2026.
