The increase in the price of tickets at STB and the condition that mayor Ciprian Ciucu puts: “Let them throw out piles and relationships”

The Mayor of Bucharest Ciprian Ciucu said, on Digi24, that a possible increase in the price of public transport tickets in the Capital must be preceded by a reduction in the operating costs of the Bucharest Transport Society.

Asked about how he collaborates with PSD's general councilors to pass his projects as general mayor, Ciprian Ciucu said: “I have to make some pills that I'm starting to get tired of as well.”

He mentioned the STB case, which is subordinate to the General Council, not the mayor, whose reform is blocked.

“We asked the STB, a deeply unreformed and ticked-off company, either to reduce costs, or to enter insolvency”, stated Ciprian Ciucu.

Referring to the eventuality of ticket price increases, Ciucu said that this can be taken into account, only after the company “shows signs” that it is reforming.

“There are 5,000 drivers and vatamani and 5,000 TESA staff. Let them throw out the piles and relationships, after that they ask for an increase in the ticket price. I asked them to come up with a project to restructure the routes because we pay 250 million lei for Ilfov”, said the general mayor, referring to the fact that the city of Bucharest bears 90% of the cost of the subsidy on the lines that connect the capital from the neighboring towns.

Regarding the multitude of construction sites that cause dissatisfaction among the citizens of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu said that these construction sites are necessary because they target major infrastructure works

“I prefer to be cursed for what I do, not because I don't do it. The projects were so late that we risked losing the European funds. Some construction sites will be ready faster, others in the next two years (…) These works will last for generations, that's why I'm asking for permission for more time,” Ciucu said.
