I don’t cook beets anymore – I cook them in a different way: 2 drops in the center – and the root vegetable remains juicy, and the peel peels off on its own

Every housewife knows that beets take quite a long time to cook. This process can take up to two hours, but if the root crop is large, the time increases. However, the cooking time can be reduced and a tastier result obtained if you choose a different cooking method.

Why is baking in foil better than boiling?

Cooking articles often describe baking beets in foil. In most recipes, everything is correct, but one small detail is usually left unattended, says life hacker Irina Polyanskaya on her blog (18+).

How to cook beets in foil:

  1. wash the beets with warm water, but do not peel them;
  2. drop a little oil into the center of a piece of foil, add a pinch of salt and sugar.
  3. place the beets on foil, lightly grease them with oil and rub with salt and sugar;
  4. Wrap the vegetable in foil, tightly closing all the cracks so that the oil does not leak out.

Then place the bundle in the oven preheated to 180 degrees for about an hour. Check readiness with a toothpick. Do not use a fork or knife – the juice may leak out and the beets will lose their vibrant color. If the toothpick goes in easily, the vegetable is ready.

What do you get and how to enhance the taste

When you unfold the foil, you will see that it is dry inside. This is a good sign: the juice has not leaked out, and all the nutrients remain. Such beets turn out juicier, with a pleasant aroma. It is easy to clean: the peel peels off almost on its own, and your hands do not get dirty with juice.

Advice: When cooked in a saucepan, beets often lose some of their flavor because they sit in water for a long time. There is no such drawback when baking. To make the vegetable taste more rich, add salt, sugar and a little citric acid along with the butter. These components will help reveal the taste of beets and make it brighter.
