Fire after a drone attack near the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates say there are no casualties or radioactive leaks after the drone attack at the Barakah nuclear power plant, according to Reuters.

Emergency teams in Abu Dhabi acted quickly to put out a fire caused by a drone strike on an electrical generator located outside the inner perimeter of the plant in the Al Dhafra region, the local Press Office announced on Sunday.

No casualties were reported, radiological safety levels were not affected, and the Federal Nuclear Regulatory Authority confirmed that the plant's essential systems were operating normally.

The Abu Dhabi Press Office strongly appealed to the public to obtain information exclusively from official government sources and avoid spreading rumors or unverified news.

No group was directly named as responsible in the official statement regarding this incident. The UAE has faced repeated missile and drone attacks during the conflict between Israel, the US and Iran.

These included incidents that authorities said originated in Iran and targeted energy and maritime infrastructure.

The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, located in the Al Dhafra region, is the first and only operational nuclear power plant in the Arabian Peninsula. The $20 billion project was developed in partnership with South Korea, and its first reactor began production in 2020.
