“Family Guide”. Cuba is teaching its citizens how to survive a possible US attack

Cuban authorities have published a “family guide” on local official websites teaching citizens how to survive “potential enemy attacks” amid tensions between the United States and the communist-run island, AFP reported on Saturday.

The guide “Protect, Resist, Survive and Win” is intended for “all Cuban families” and was written by the Civil Defense.

The document provides “practical” information for “protecting life against possible enemy attacks”, according to a statement published on Friday on the “Citizen's Portal (of the province) Havana”, quoted by Agerpres.

One of the recommendations refers to the preparation of a “family backpack containing drinking water, food, medicine and hygiene products”. Information on “first aid” and attention to “air raid alerts” are also recommended.

The events take place in the context of the energy blockade that the USA imposed on the communist island, which deprived it of fuel. Havana is facing its worst power outages in decades, and Cubans took to the streets Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Romania) to protest.

Hundreds of angry Cubans blocked roads with piles of burning garbage, banging pots and shouting “Turn on the lights!” and “The people, united, will never be defeated!” in the biggest night of demonstrations in Havana since the energy crisis began, according to Reuters.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump called Cuba a “failed state”, saying Havana was asking for help and talks would take place.
