Daniil Medvedev made full use of his experience in the quarter-final match against the young Spaniard Martin Landaluce, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser. The Russian lost the first set 1-6, then, in the decider, he came back from 2-3, had the experience of missing three match points, eventually winning 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

“He played unbelievable at the start. If he plays like he did in the first set of every match, he'll be in the Top 5 by the end of the year. When you're young, it's hard to play a whole match like that, I just fought. I'm glad I was able to win.” said Medvedev at the end of the game.

Center Court was packed for the 2021 US Open champion and the young contender. They had plenty to see, even if at one point they had to take cover, the match being interrupted for half an hour in the second set due to rain. But the show continued after this break.

Daniil Medvedev qualified for the semifinals of a Masters 1,000 tournament for the 18th time, his second this season after Indian Wells. There he will meet the Italian Jannik Sinner on Friday evening, not before 20:00.

Daniil Medvedev, the only one of the semi-finalists who won in Rome

Medvedev is an uncomfortable player for Sinner, the score of the direct meetings being 9-7 in favor of the world leader, who prevailed in the last four confrontations, the last of which took place this year, in the Indian Wells final. The world leader prevailed in two sets that needed a tie-break.

Casper Ruud (27 years old, 25 ATP) and Luciano Darderi (24 years old, 20 ATP) will compete in the other semifinal, which will be played from 16:30. Of the four present in the penultimate act, only Daniil Medvedev managed to impose himself on the clay of the Foro Italico, he triumphing in 2023.
