A new highway that will leave from Bucharest has passed one more hop. It will pass through three counties and will have more than 70 km. “It is a strategic project for southern Romania”

The technical-economic documentation for the future highway between Bucharest and Alexandria was approved by the Technical-Economic Council of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, announced on Tuesday the state secretary in MTI, Ionel Scrioșteanu. The future highway will be 74 km long, but before it becomes a reality, there are still other stages to go.

“It is a strategic project for the south of Romania, which will contribute to the economic development of Ilfov, Giurgiu and Teleorman counties, increasing road safety and reducing travel times. At the same time, it will ensure fast connections with the A0 Bucharest Motorway, with the future Bucharest – Giurgiu Motorway (A5) and with the national network of high-speed roads to Craiova and the west of the country. This project will mean new investments, jobs and development opportunities for the entire region”, he wrote the secretary of state on Facebook.

According to him, four more stages follow: the approval in the Interministerial Council and the approval of the technical-economic indicators in the Government of Romania, respectively the preparation of the specifications and the launch of the tender for the design and execution of works.

The main foreseen characteristics of the Bucharest-Alexandria Motorway are:

  • 74.2 km route length
  • 2 traffic lanes/direction, emergency lane, shoulder
  • 65 passages, bridges and viaducts, of which the passages over Argeș and Vedea are the longest (994 meters and 1153 meters, respectively), and the total length of the works of art amounts to 10.8 km;

The highway will have 10 road junctions:

  • Junction 1 (km 2+800) – Bucharest, connection A0 km 78+957 and Radial Road 10 – Măgurele Expres;
  • Node 2 (km 9+392) ​​– Mihăilești, link DJ412A;
  • Junction 3 (km 12+818) – Mihăilești, Iepurești, connection with the future Bucharest – Giurgiu A5 motorway;
  • Junction 4 (km 15+710) – Stâlpu, link DN6 (E70);
  • Node 5 (km 25+950) – Letca Noua, connection DN61;
  • Node 6 (km 36+256) – Old Letca, link DJ601D;
  • Node 7 (km 44+239) – Tunari, link DJ503;
  • Junction 8 (km 59+626) – Vităneşti, link DN6 (E70);
  • Node 9 (km 69+759) – Alexandria, connection DJ504;
  • Node 10 (km 75+365) – Alexandria, link DN6F(E70) km 9+301

In addition, the freeway will have service spaces with parking spaces for charging electric vehicles (3 sets left/right); Maintenance and Monitoring Center; Maintenance and Coordination Center; secure truck parking; forest curtains and sound-absorbing panels; 15 zones for switching from one lane of the highway to another in case of emergency situations.

Almost three years of execution

According to the Secretary of State, the execution duration of the works is 33 months, and the source of financing is expected from non-refundable European funds, through the Transport Program 2021-2027, the future European financial program and the state budget.

The route will cross the following counties and towns: Ilfov – Dărăști, Măgurele, Giurgiu – Mihăilești, Iepurești, Bulbucata, Letca Noua, Ghimpați, Teleorman – Bujoreni, Botoroaga, Drăgăneşti-Vlasca, Băbaita, Măgura, Orbeasca, Alexandria, Mavrodin, Buzescu.
