Singer Sergei Zhukov filed a lawsuit to regain the rights to the imperishable songs of the group “Hands Up” – “My Baby”, “Alien Lips”, “Student”, “Where are you, girls” and nine more compositions.
Since the late 90s, the tracks of the duet of Zhukov and keyboard player Alexei Potekhin legally belong to the group’s producer Andrei Malikov. Sergei was even fined 100k rubles for performing “Student”.
Then the singer sued Malikov’s music label “Jem Publishing House”, but lost. Servants of Themis decided that, although Zhukov was the author and performer of songs, it was Malikov who financed the recording of the compositions. Moreover, the group members themselves gave up all the rights and did not challenge them in any way for 20 years.
Now the artist has appealed to the Arbitration Court, hoping that he will have better luck there.
