Victor Angelescu, president and minority shareholder at Rapid, revealed that the owner Dan Șucu is very disappointed with the performance of Constantin Gâlcă's students in the current play-off, noting that the businessman “doesn't even feel like watching the matches anymore”.
Rapid qualified for the play-off from 2nd place, but in the final phase of the championship, the team from Giulești registered only one victory, 3-2 in the first stage against the rival Dinamo. Later, the team coached by Constantin Gâlcă recorded another draw and 6 defeats, 4 of which were consecutive in the last rounds.
The management of Rapid is already preparing the next season, and the first target for the technical bench is the former coach and player of Giulești, Daniel Pancu, currently a technician at CFR Cluj.
Victor Angelescu, revelations about Dan Șucu: “He is totally disappointed”
“I knew what Costel was like when I brought him in. It wasn't the first team he coached at, I pretty much knew what kind of person he is. I can't blame him for being a certain way. In general, people of a certain age don't change anymore. I've said it before, I think we all have our share of the blame.
Our problem is the pressure, we can't just put it on Gâlcă. It is clear that this is the third play-off in which we are cracking under pressure. It's clear that I haven't done something right.
(no regarding Dan Șucu) He is totally disappointed, he doesn't even feel like watching the matches anymore. He's disappointed, very disappointed, everyone is very disappointed. Costel can't help but have some of the blame, but he's not the only one. We knew how we brought him in, we thought about his strengths, his weaknesses. He could probably manage better, maybe we, the management, could have done more.
It is clear that other people could have done more, from the players, to the sporting director, to the president and to anyone at the club. The sports director has several duties, to manage certain conflicts, to talk with the coach, with the players, with the president. Everyone could do more.
I thought until now that good things were done. I was also in first place towards the end, I was always up. If you had asked me at the end of the regular season, I would have said I did things the right way. It is clear that in the play-off matches we do not face the pressure.
The reality is that the situation frustrates me. I am convinced that the value of the players is not reflected in these matches. Maybe it wasn't a title lot, but let's not finish 5th or 6th either,” said Victor Angelescu, on the “Fotbal Show” show on Prima Sport 1.
