A well-known sociologist talks about a “systemic catastrophe” in the scenario of a technocratic government and prime minister

The director of INSCOP, Remus Ștefureac, estimates that a new “experiment” with a technocrat government would bring the AUR to over 50% in the next parliamentary elections in 2028.
“45.6%. This was the electoral score obtained by PSD/Liviu Dragnea after two years or so of experimenting with a prime minister and a technocrat government (the Cioloș government) supported by PSD, PNL and USR.
What will the AUR score be in 2028 after a possible experiment with a technocrat government/prime minister installed for the next two and a half years, supported by roughly the same party?”, says Remus Ștefureac, in a message posted on Facebook on Tuesday.
He says that with the way society looks today, with the kind of cleavages and the kind of huge economic-financial challenges with their enormous social costs, “perfect for ultra-populist formulas”, his estimate is that AUR would get a score of over 50%.
“Which would be a systemic catastrophe, a disaster for the democratic regime, for the economy and prosperity of this country in the context of connecting a large part of the elites of this party to anti-Western narratives.
I say anti-Western because, beyond the AUR's radical anti-European speech, I suspect that no one has forgotten the AUR's opposition to the US request to Romania to host transport planes and radars. As for real patriotism, let's not forget the blocking of the legislation necessary for the Romanian Army to shoot down Russian aggressor drones, right?”, adds the director of INSCOP.
Nicușor Dan, about the option of a prime minister or a technocrat government: “A scenario that has chances”
President Nicușor Dan declared on Tuesday that there are relatively few options for a government supported by the majority in Parliament, noting that the option of a technocrat prime minister is “a scenario that has a chance”.
“With the general title, my request that I have to all the party delegations that we will meet with, for any of the government proposals, my question will be whether or not a majority has already been negotiated. This is the general answer. And, as I see from the preliminary discussions, if the parties – and I expect them to keep their options that they have already exposed in the public space, in fact there are relatively few options for a government supported by a majority in Parliament and I do not to do experiments. And I don't think it's useful for Romania to do experiments in which we propose prime ministers and let them see if they get a majority or not”, said Nicușor Dan, when asked if there is still the option of re-appointing Ilie Bolojan as prime minister.
About the option of a technocrat prime minister or a government formed by technocrats, Nicușor Dan said: “It is a scenario that has chances.”
He added that he had options for technocrat premierships in mind but did not advance them: “In my mind, yes, but I haven't advanced them, I haven't advanced them because I will advance them when there is a majority formula for it.”
The president announced that he will convene formal consultations with the parties for the formation of the new government on Thursday or Monday, specifying that he will also call the AUR representatives to the discussions.
