Trump calls Iran's response to US proposal to end war 'totally unacceptable'

President Donald Trump dismissed Iran's response to US proposals to end the war as “totally unacceptable”, notes the BBC.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said Tehran's proposal included an immediate end to the war on all fronts, an end to the US naval blockade and guarantees that there would be no further attacks on Iran.

A truce meant to facilitate talks to end the war launched by the US and Israel in February has been largely respected, despite some violent exchanges of fire.

Earlier this week, Trump repeated that the war in Iran “will end quickly.”

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium must be “eliminated” before the war against Iran can be considered over.

“There are still enrichment sites that need to be dismantled,” Netanyahu said in an interview with CBS' 60 Minutes.

On Sunday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian did not directly refer to Tehran's proposal, but said: “We will never bow our heads to the enemy, and if there is talk of dialogue or negotiations, it does not mean surrender or withdrawal.”

Trump posted on Truth Social: “Just read the response from the so called 'representatives' of Iran. I don't like it – TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.”

US news agency Axios reported that the one-page, 14-point US memorandum includes provisions such as suspending Iran's nuclear enrichment, lifting sanctions and restoring free transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

He cited two US officials and two other sources – all anonymous – whom he described as having knowledge of the issues.

Iran continued to block the Strait of Hormuz, which led to a rise in world oil prices.

The US, in turn, imposed a blockade on Iranian ports to pressure Tehran to accept the terms of the deal – a move that angered Iran.
