Vladimir Putin talks about the end of the war with Ukraine. “I think it's getting closer.”


Vladimir Putin said on Saturday that “the conflict with Ukraine is coming to an end.” — A possible meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would only be possible after agreeing on a lasting peace agreement, the Russian leader noted.

The dictator also said that Moscow is grateful to the United States for facilitating talks, but peace negotiations are “only a matter for Russia and Ukraine.”

Vladimir Putin also pointed out that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is the mediator in possible negotiations with Europe to end the war in Ukraine.

Gerhard Schroeder has been supporting Russia and Vladimir Putin's policies for 20 years. As Chancellor of Germany, he led the construction of the Nord Stream undersea gas pipeline. Later, as a lobbyist, he supervised the implementation of the investment. The German also commented positively on the presidential “elections” in Russia in 2024, claiming that they were free.

Gerhard Schroeder (born 1944) is a German politician, long-time member and chairman of the SPD. In the years 1998-2005 he was Chancellor of Germany. After completing his chancellor mission, he went into business. He found employment, among others, in the Russian company Rosneft. In the years 2017-2022 he was the head of the board of directors there.

Vladimir Putin's adviser: no one talked about negotiations

— The ongoing truce with Kiev will not last longer than three days, Vladimir Putin's foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said earlier, commenting on US President Donald Trump's statement that “the ceasefire may last longer.”

Ceasefire in Ukraine. Donald Trump has spoken

Over the past few days, a ceasefire has been announced by the Ukrainian and Russian sides. First, Moscow proposed a truce for May 8-11. Kiev rejected this deadline, accusing the Kremlin of violating the ceasefire announced by the Ukrainian side on May 5 and 6.
On Friday evening, Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a ceasefire and that it would last from May 9 to 11. The American president said that both sides of the conflict would carry out an exchange of prisoners in the “1,000 for 1,000” formula.

Due to the ongoing war between the US and Israel against Iran, Ukraine-US-Russia negotiations were last held in February. It was previously announced that the talks could take place between March 5 and 9.
