The platform is developed by the founding members and partners of the Hub of Innovation in Health.
“Patients in Romania, the owners, the medical community and the general public will be able to access the information about the clinical studies in Romania, through a new online platform, in Romanian, which will develop this year. The approach is initiated by the founding members and partners of the health innovation and is part of the actions assumed through the 'Strategic Plan for Clinical Studies in Romania' (…) The data of the European Information System on Clinical Studies (CIS) highlights the fact that 550 studies are currently in 336 medical centers in Romania. Countries where patients can access most clinical studies are Spain, France, Germany, Italy“, Declared Dr. Viorel Jinga, the rector of UMF” Carol Davila “, in the debate” Anatomy of medical research. Analysis of Romanian and international practices “.
The event is organized by the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology (UMFST) “George Emil Palade” in Târgu Mureș, during which the Romanian and international practices were analyzed.
For the development of the platform on clinical trials in Romania, Dr. Jinga said, Memorandum was signed between nine partner entities in Hub – Ministry of Health, National Medicines Agency and Medical Devices (ANMDMR), G6 -MUMF University Alliance, Local Working Group (Lawg), National Medical Society (Romanian) Coalition of organizations of patients with chronic disorders in Romania (Tree), Association of Patients with Autoimmune Diseases (APAA), Association of Companies Leaders of Clinical Studies (ACCSCR) and NOVO Nordisk Farm.
“Digital platforms dedicated to clinical studies are a natural and necessary step for modernizing medical research. They facilitate the informed access of patients, support effective recruitment and open the way to national and international collaborations between the university environment, hospitals and industry. At the same time, they provide a transparent and educational framework, essential for increasing public confidence in science and for forming new generation of researchers”, Dr. Viorel Jinga said, according to News.ro.
The rector of UMFst, Prof. Dr. Leonard Azamfirei, mentioned that it is important that at this moment in Romania it passed by the “romantic” phase of clinical trials.
“I am glad that we are at this moment in the passing phase, to say so, the romance of the clinical studies, in which things were done quite haidons, at a time when things start to be regulated, because few believe they are. I think they are the areas around us, medical or non-medical, which require a stricter, more rigorous and better made regulation (…) on the other hand, looking at this regulatory component, I think it was a period when the number of clinical studies was higher in countries where it is supposed to be less strict. Neither Romania and no other country be the receiver of some clinical studies, because here they are done according to other standards than elsewhere. I will tell you that, it seems, 18% of the clinical studies worldwide are done in China. I do not issue any value judgment. Everyone can understand this figure in the same way, but I think our purpose is that in this wider framework of scientific research ethics we keep the quality standard and resist the temptation to have studies at any price.”, Stated Leonard Azamfirei.
