How much money does the Rabla program receive? The Ministry of the Environment launched the AFM budget for 2026 in public consultation

The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced on Saturday, May 9, the launch in public consultation of the draft decision on the approval of the budget of the Administration of the Environment Fund (AFM) for the year 2026. The document provides for important allocations for local infrastructure and green transition projects, among the most substantial funding being those intended for water and sewage systems, worth 1.5 billion lei.

According to the minister, the priority of 2026 is the integration of environmental projects into local development and their transformation into essential investments for increasing the quality of life.
“In 2026, projects must be prioritized that bring essential quality public services for Romanians. The goal of 2026 is for environmental projects to no longer be perceived and treated separately from local development”, Diana Buzoianu sent on Facebook.
Another important point of the budget is the allocation of 400 million lei for a national battery energy storage program, in the context of the accelerated increase in the number of prosumers and the pressure exerted on the national distribution network.
“For 2026, we are putting more emphasis on storage solutions (batteries), not just production. We are thus responding to the massive increase in the number of prosumers and the pressure on the national distribution network”explained the interim Minister of the Environment.
The Rabla program for individuals will benefit from a budget of 300 million lei, with the authorities announcing that they will particularly encourage the purchase of vehicles produced and assembled in Europe.
The budget also includes 700 million lei for the modernization of public lighting systems, a measure aimed at reducing administrative costs and increasing safety in communities.
Also, 250 million lei will be directed to the national afforestation program, with an emphasis on the reconversion of unproductive lands, soil stabilization and combating the risk of desertification in certain regions of the country.
Diana Buzoianu specified that, after the approval of the budget, revised funding guidelines will be developed and adopted, which will include improvements compared to previous editions of the AFM programs.
