The Romanian swimmer immediately attracted the attention of the little ones, and one of the most emotional moments came when a child with his hand in a cast confessed to him that he admired him a lot. After learning that the injury came from a soccer game, Popovici offered him an autograph on the cast and agreed to take a photo with him.
At the end, dozens of children gathered around the champion for pictures and autographs, the atmosphere being full of enthusiasm.
After some discussions with the participants, David Popovici did the warm-up exercises he uses before swimming races with the little ones. The children tried to imitate his movements, and the athlete encouraged them to exercise and approach sports.
“I'm going to do this for the rest of my life!”
At the end of the event, the Romanian champion told that, as a child, he would have wanted autographs from Michael Phelps and Robert Glința. Also then, Popovici also spoke about the responsibility he feels as a role model for children and young people from an early age.
“I feel very honored and I consider myself privileged to be able to talk about this. I'm honored that every time I walk down the street or I'm behind the wheel and someone recognizes me, they recognize me through the prism of the sport and the messages that I send. I'm glad that I can do it and I will do it for the rest of my life. Like I said, I owe a lot to the sport!“said David Popovici.
