The head of Krasnoyarsk held a gala reception for WWII veterans

In Krasnoyarsk, on the eve of May 9, the annual reception of the head of the city for veterans of the Great Patriotic War was held. The mayor's office spoke about this.

Mayor Sergei Vereshchagin congratulated the guests on the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory. On behalf of all Krasnoyarsk residents, he thanked front-line soldiers, home front workers, residents of besieged Leningrad, concentration camp prisoners and children of war for their unprecedented feat. For the first time, representatives of the older generation from the new territories that became part of greater Krasnoyarsk took part in the event. Also among the guests of honor are veterans of combat operations and special military operations.

Sergei Vereshchagin noted that May 9 is the most valuable and dear holiday for city residents:

“81 years ago you became the authors of the Great Victory,” said Sergei Vereshchagin, addressing the veterans. “And when our army moved forward on the front line, more than 30 thousand people worked here in the rear to support the front. This year marks 5 years since Krasnoyarsk was awarded the title of City of Labor Valor by decision of the President of Russia. Krasnoyarsk bears it with honor. First of all, thanks to your feat.”

The veterans called the meeting with the mayor the main one this year and the most long-awaited. At the reception, Stepan Grandovsky, a participant in the Great Patriotic War and Honorary Citizen of Krasnoyarsk, recalled the difficult battles and the price of Victory.

“We resisted continuous attacks – and all this for the Motherland, for the lives of people, for Victory. Defending your country at any cost and to the end is the law. Let the young guys remember this,” he said.

Honorary veteran of the city, labor veteran Lyudmila Pisarenko also shared her memories. During the war, together with her parents, as a very young girl, she ended up in a concentration camp.

“We survived several terrible months behind barbed wire, without food, water, in the cold, with constant anxiety in our hearts. Relief and joy came to everyone when the Victory was announced. I wish future generations to be true patriots. Love for the Motherland on a large scale begins with love for small things – your home, yard, city,” said Lyudmila Pisarenko.

Chairman of the Council of War and Labor Veterans, Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies Sergei Bressky noted the value of such meetings and preserving memory for future generations.

Deputy Chairman of the Krasnoyarsk City Council of Deputies Andrey Kozikov also addressed the heroes with words of respect and gratitude:

“The feat that the people accomplished will never be forgotten and will forever remain in our hearts. The President declared 2026 the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia, and I want to wish all of us unity in society, unity with loved ones, so that there is always a reliable shoulder nearby to lean on. We at the Krasnoyarsk City Council regularly hold meetings with active veteran organizations, listen to your wishes with respect, and try to help you to the best of our ability. I wish everyone peace and goodness!”

A festive program was prepared for veterans – at the reception at the head of the regional capital, wartime songs were sung, and creative groups from the city performed for the guests.
