Rapists in the Capital: a 58-year-old man and his 80-year-old neighbor abused a 9-year-old girl. Investigators fear that the list of victims is long and are appealing to the public
Two men, aged 58 and 80, were remanded in custody for 30 days, being investigated for rape of a minor and sexual corruption of minors. The police believe that the number of victims is much higher and make an urgent appeal to all people who have been abused to break their silence.

The investigation is being carried out by the officers of the Sexual Assault Service within the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest, under the coordination of a prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the 2nd District Court.
Abuse of a 9-year-old minor
In the case of the 58-year-old man, investigators determined that, between 2025 and January 2026, he repeatedly committed acts of a sexual nature on his niece, a 9-year-old girl, at home.
According to the administered probation, “the acts were committed by coercion, the suspect taking advantage of the victim's vulnerability and her inability to understand the meaning of the acts and to express a valid consent”. He also resorted to threats of violence to prevent her from revealing the situation.
Following a home search carried out on February 26, 2026, the man was detained for 24 hours, and later the court ordered preventive arrest for 30 days.
The second suspect, an 80-year-old man
In the same file, the police determined that another man, 80 years old, a neighbor of the first suspect, committed acts with “sexual character on the same minor, under similar conditions, respectively by coercion, taking advantage of the victim's inability to express her will and the lack of a validly expressed consent, related to her age and the inability to understand the situation in which she was”.
Thus, on May 5, 2026, for the continuation of investigations and the administration of evidence, a warrant of arrest was implemented.
The suspect was found and taken to the headquarters of the police structure for questioning. The detention measure was ordered for 24 hours, later, the magistrates ordered preventive arrest for 30 days.
“At the same time, following the investigative activities and searches carried out, it was reasonable to assume that the two men would have committed similar acts against other people who, at the time of the acts, were minors – the victims being relatives or people from their entourage”, reported the Capital Police.
Police officers encourage people who have been victims of such crimes to notify the competent authorities or the nearest police unit, so that people suspected of committing such acts can be held criminally liable, under the law.
The investigations are being continued by the officers of the Sexual Assaults Service within the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest, under the supervision of a prosecutor specialized in the investigation of sexual abuse of minors within the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Court of District 2, for rape of a minor and sexual corruption of minors.
