Since April 22, the international campaign “St. George’s Ribbon” has been taking place throughout Russia and in more than 30 countries around the world.

Volunteers hand out millions of black and orange ribbons, reminding us: we remember, we are proud. In 2022, the ribbon intertwining generations received the official status of a symbol of Russia’s military glory.

Almost 1.5 thousand St. George ribbons will be presented to employees of JSC SUEK-Krasnoyarsk by youth council activists on the eve of Victory Day. Coal miners have supported the All-Russian action throughout its history.

“Every year we present St. George’s ribbons to our colleagues. We started back in the twentieth of April, so all employees will come out to the memorial meeting on the eve of Victory Day with this symbol of the holiday on their chests,” says Natalya Zima, leading specialist in the HR and social affairs department of the Nazarovo open-pit mine.

“By attaching this ribbon, my colleagues and I thank all the defenders of the Fatherland and say: “The memory of the exploits of heroes lives in our hearts!” Sergei Lappo, long-term planning engineer of the technical department of the Borodino open-pit mine, recalled the significance of the symbol.

“The St. George Ribbon campaign is one of the many events that we traditionally hold on the eve of Victory Day, our most important holiday,” says Anastasia Gushchina, a specialist in the labor and wages department of the Borodino Loading and Transport Department. “We are decorating the windows of our administrative and amenity complex, designing the “Memory Wall”, and on Victory Day we will definitely march in the Immortal Regiment with portraits of our heroes. Today, like our parents once upon a time, we must also carefully preserve and pass on to our children the memory of the Great Patriotic War, the feat of our people.”

At the Berezovsky mine, St. George ribbons were distributed during a memorial meeting and a festive mini-concert; events with wartime songs, waltzes and poems on the eve of May 9 have already become a good tradition at the enterprise.

“More than 80 years have passed, but Victory Day remains a holiday with tears in our eyes for a variety of generations,” shares Ekaterina Altabasova, chief specialist of the production control and labor safety department of the Berezovsky open-pit mine. “There are few veterans left alive, witnesses of those terrible years, but through such commemorative actions, poems and songs, we will preserve their memory for the sake of the future.”

SUEK-Krasnoyarsk employees also joined other all-Russian events and promotions: “Windows of Victory”, “Victory Dictation”, “Poems of Victory” performed by the children of employees, sports competitions, exhibitions of children's drawings and much more.

The memory of the feat of the generation of winners is sacred for coal miners. The St. George ribbon on the chest of each employee is not just a tribute to tradition, but a living connection of the times when yesterday’s soldiers, after the Victory, raised the country and built coal mines, laying the foundation for future generations.
