UDMR Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna: “It will take weeks, maybe months to coagulate a parliamentary majority”

The dismissed Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna states that, after the dismissal of the Government, Romania is facing a new political crisis, “although this was not and is not the expectation of the people”, informs News.ro. The UDMR representative estimated that the installation of a new government could even take several months.

“Once again a government has fallen, and Romania is facing a new political crisis, although this was not and is not what the people expected. Once again we failed to have a period of at least a year without a government crisis. Again the government was overthrown without knowing what is to come and a state of generalized uncertainty reigns between the parties. Again, it will take weeks, maybe months, to coagulate a parliamentary majority and appoint a prime minister”, he said Tanczos Barna, on Tuesday, in a post on Facebook.

He recalled that, in the last year and a half, UDMR was part of the last two government coalitions to contribute to solving a critical situation for Romania, starting from the premise that politicians will act responsibly.

“Looking back after a year and a half and understanding the dissatisfaction of more and more people, the question becomes more and more legitimate: what can we do in a political situation where the political parties in Romania have not been able to provide stability and predictability for decades. Today, frankly, it is difficult for me to give a clear answer,” wrote Tanczos.

He ended his post on a more optimistic note, saying that a quick return to political stability can lead to an end to the difficult period the country is going through.

“Romania has every chance that, starting from August, against the background of a significant drop in inflation, it will close one of the most difficult periods of the last decades, and from next year, through a new public sector salary law, by indexing pensions to inflation and by maintaining investments at an adequate level, to return to a period of economic stability. Regardless of whether the UDMR will be in government or not, this is a realistic perspective, it must be the goal,” he pointed out.
