Nicoleta Pauliuc (PNL): “Why should we leave the government?” The senator calls for a firm line against extremism

PNL senator Nicoleta Pauliuc launched a tough message on Tuesday evening, at the meeting of the National Political Bureau, warning that the liberals are “at a turning point“and that the decisions taken now will define the direction of the formation for the coming years. Pauliuc asked the PNL leadership not to abandon the government and to remain consistent with the pro-European and Euro-Atlantic line.
“It is a turning point for the PNL. Mr. President Bolojan, the pro-European Euro-Atlantic direction, in the last 10 months, we have repeated that we firmly defend Romania's European course. Now, I ask you: Because a political motion has passed, we abandon this construction? Who defends the Euro-Atlantic direction, if not us? Will we refuse the President's invitation to participate in a pro-European government?”, said the PNL senator.
Warning regarding “bleaching” GOLD
Nicoleta Pauliuc recalled that, on April 21, she proposed a resolution by which PNL would completely dissociate from AUR, SOS and POT, but the document was not put to a vote.
“Two weeks later, the fall of the Bolojan Government could not have happened without GOLD”said the senator, criticizing the fact that some colleagues have started in recent days “a bleaching operation” of the extremist group.
“This is not consistency. I say it is a capitulation to a moral convention that the PNL has defended for five years“, said the PNL senator.
Criticism of routeism and “piecemeal” negotiations
Nicoleta Pauliuc also denounced the individual negotiations conducted by some liberals with AUR MPs to stop the motion:
“For years we have criticized trasesism and the buying of people piecemeal. And unfortunately, too many times in the last few days, we have made breaking news by the fact that there are colleagues of ours who have negotiated, piecemeal, parliamentarians from AUR and satellites to stop the motion. Once again, we must also look in our own mirrorah.”
The senator asked the PNL president a series of questions related to the political alliances in Bucharest:
“Mr. President, is it true, did you give positions to colleagues from USR, to those from REPER, SENS, NGOs so that it was possible to elect Mr. Ciucu to the position of general mayor?”.
The liberal continued:
“Why should we leave the government just when the measures are starting to bear fruit?”.
Nicoleta Pauliuc criticized the idea of the PNL withdrawing from the government, given that the party has taken tough measures, which would only now produce effects:
“We recently took the tough measures, explained to the people and lost points in the polls. Now, just when these measures should bear fruit, we propose to leave the government? How? Let someone else reap the electoral benefits?”, she asked.
Incendiary transcripts from the PNL meeting: majority vote for Bolojan's resolution to no longer form an alliance with PSD
The senator emphasized that the only consistent political leader in relation to the AUR was the president Nicușor Dan:
“The only man who was consistent with AUR during this period was President Nicușor Dan. He didn't meet with their leaders in the basements. He didn't whitewash them.“
Nicoleta Pauliuc criticized the attacks of some liberal colleagues on the president:
“Today, our partner, Nicușor Dan, was transformed into the greatest enemy of the PNL, attacked by his colleagues on television. Do we want to have a partner in the President or not?“
Proposal: a party pact against extremism
Pauliuc demanded that his party initiate a political agreement whereby all democratic parties publicly declare that AUR is an extremist party and that they will not collaborate with it:
“I think that PNL should come to the negotiation table where all participating parties sign that AUR is an extremist party and that they will not collaborate with it“, she explained.
In conclusion, the senator sent a call for consistency and responsibility:
“A worthy party defends its work and does not run away when the fight gets tough. A consistent party stays on the board, not on the chair. And the PNL leadership – Euro-Atlantic, reformist, partner of the president – defends itself better in government than in opposition”.
Liberala added:
“To say 'we're part of the solution' for a whole year and then jump overboard at the first storm — I think that's inconsistency. Our message has to be that we don't want to gift the country to those who are prepared and have plans to tear it downit is”.
We remind you that the censure motion against the Bolojan Government, initiated by AUR and PSD, passed on Tuesday, May 5, following the vote in Parliament, being voted by 281 MPs (with the highest number of votes in the history of the Romanian Parliament). 233 votes were needed to be adopted.
The National Liberal Party (PNL) met on Tuesday, from 17:00, in an extended meeting of the National Political Bureau, after the adoption of the censure motion that led to the dismissal of the Government led by Ilie Bolojan.
