How much do teachers earn for checking high school leaving exams? We know the exact rates

The remuneration system for checking high school leaving exams is strictly defined and related to the earnings of a certified teacher, which in 2026 amount to PLN 6,397 gross. This amount is the basis for calculating all additional rates.
Examiners' salaries vary greatly and depend primarily on the subject and the level of difficulty of the paper.

Traditionally, the assessment of Polish language works requires the most time and commitment, which is reflected in the price list. In this case, the payment is divided: for marking the test, the teacher receives approximately PLN 16.77, while checking the essay is valued at over PLN 40. Total for one sheet at the extended level, this amount may exceed PLN 57.
The situation is slightly different in the case of other items. For checking the basic secondary school leaving examination in mathematics, the examiner will receive approximately PLN 38.94 gross per student. The lowest rates apply to foreign languages, where checking one work is priced at approximately PLN 23.97.
System pitfalls and additional features
Please remember that real earnings may differ from basic rates. If a student does not solve any of the tasks in the Matura exam, the examiner will only receive a small percentage of the standard amount. In turn, in the e-assessment system (electronic checking), the remuneration is precisely divided into smaller parts assigned to specific tasks, which in practice means rates of several dozen zlotys for a given fragment of work.

People involved in oral examinations and those performing responsible functions can count on higher income. For conducting an oral examination in Polish, an academic teacher can earn approximately PLN 40.81 per candidate. The highest salaries are definitely allocated to the staff managing the assessment process. The highest allowances are granted to the chairmen of the high school leaving examination teams and verifierswhose final remuneration depends on the effectiveness of the entire team subordinated to them.
