A photo exhibition dedicated to Victory Day opened in Dzerzhinsky Park in Krasnoyarsk

A street photo exhibition “We brought this day closer as best we could”, timed to coincide with the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, began operating in the Dzerzhinsky park in Krasnoyarsk.

The exhibition is based on photographs from the archives of TASS military photo chronicles, as well as photographs from the Krasnoyarsk Local History Museum and the Peace Square museum center. A special place was occupied by the work of Krasnoyarsk resident Igor Venyukov, a photojournalist for the Krasnoyarsk Worker newspaper, who took photographs on the front line. Also presented are photographs of Stepan Malobitsky, whose name has become a symbol of the visual chronicle of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The footage shows factory floors working around the clock, evacuees, children at the machines, women who replaced the men who went to the front.

“This exhibition is already a traditional format; we have been opening it in Dzerzhinsky Square for several years. This time we tried to make it reflect the rear part, because Krasnoyarsk is a city of labor valor. At the same time, rare photographs that were taken by war photographers are also presented,” said Irina Brezhneva, head of the press and mass communications agency of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The central element of the exhibition is a metaphorical railway bridge, along which the main photographic row is built. The image was not chosen by chance: it was the railway that was the main artery of the war, along which trains with soldiers went to the front, and ambulance trains with the wounded returned back. In total, the exhibition features about 50 works, each accompanied by a description of the event, place and time of shooting.

“Such exhibitions are very important; they show children living history, and not just pictures in textbooks. My daughter looked at the pictures and asked questions, and this is worth a lot,” shared Elena from Krasnoyarsk.

The exhibition will be open until the end of May, admission is free.
