“We are not turning the PSD – AUR games. We are not voting for a motion without solutions! An entire generation of Romanians, the generation of our parents, lived a destiny marked by hard work, darkness, cold and deprivation, imposed by a cruel regime, built around the ambitions of a single man. But those were, at least, ambitions for and about Romania.
Today, that regime has not really disappeared. He metamorphosed. He put on the clothes of democracy, but replaced the dream of aggrandizement with one of “over-enrichment”. And for this new purpose, our generation is called, once again, to bear the sacrifice”. MP Andrei Csillag said in a post on Facebook.
Andrei Csillag says that the UNIT Party has been consistent in opposition, voting several motions against the government led by Ilie Bolojan and criticizing the austerity measures that have particularly affected vulnerable people, but not “political clientele”.
At the same time, he accuses the PSD of aggravating the economic crisis and also generating a political crisis, and the censure motion supported by the AUR is considered without substance, because it does not propose a real change of direction, but only the replacement of a person.
“We have had discussions with the initiators. We have sought to understand the proposed solution. There is none. There is no alternative government, there is no new economic plan, only the desire to change a name.
I also had direct talks with the Prime Minister. It has been confirmed to us that there is no intention to change the current policies. Under these conditions, it becomes obvious that the real stake is the elimination of a character who has become uncomfortable, a man who has begun to “turn on the light” in areas where old interests prefer darkness.”
He also points out that the AUR chose to support this initiative, without offering a real alternative, thus facilitating “a political game of the PSD” and “contributing to a change of facade that leaves the system intact.”
“UNIT signed the motion to allow a quick clarification of the political situation. Romania cannot afford a prolonged deadlock. But our vote must reflect the public interest, not behind-the-scenes political calculations.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has been criticized, including by us, for rigidity, lack of empathy in the application of harsh measures and questionable priorities. But dishonesty is not an accusation brought against him.”
Senator PACE: “I will not vote to save the PSD and the political system that destroyed Romania”
Liviu Fodoca, senator from the PACE – First Romania group, said on Facebook that it will never be “the political tool of the PSD” and will not support “by voting the political rescue attempts of a corrupt system that destroyed Romania”.
Tuesday, “D-Day” for the Bolojan Government. The motion of no confidence is being played just two votes away. What's next for Romania?
“In the last 35 years, the PSD has decisively contributed to the weakening of state institutions, to the waste of national resources and to moving Romania away from an authentic path of development.
In this context, I consider that the current motion of censure does not represent a change of direction, but risks becoming only an instrument through which the political rehabilitation of the descendants of the FSN is attempted, without assuming responsibility for the decisions that generated the deep dissatisfaction of the Romanians”.
The senator says that PSD is trying to run away from responsibility and present itself as a savior, even though it would be the main culprit for Romania's current situation.
He claims that Romanians can no longer be convinced by statements, but need real reforms and a responsible government, and the political system based on privileges and sinecures should be replaced.
“PSD and all the descendants of Ion Iliescu, Petre Roman, Adrian Năstase and Liviu Dragnea must disappear from Romanian politics, led by Sorin Grindeanu, Marian Neacșu, Claudiu Manda, Paul Stănescu, Alfred Simonis or Olguța Vasilescu.
As long as there is no real will to reform, as long as there is no openness to transparent and accountable government, I will not participate in efforts that have the sole purpose of preserving a political system that has lost its credibility.”
Last but not least, he says he will support “it only supports those initiatives that bring change and that put the interest of Romanians first, not the political survival of some corrupt structures that want to continue robbing public money.”
The debate and vote on the motion submitted by PSD and AUR against the Government will take place on Tuesday, May 5. The censure motion is initiated by 254 deputies and senators, according to the announcement from the joint plenary.
In the text of the motion signed by PSD-AUR, the Government is accused that the reform of Prime Minister Bolojan is, in reality, an administrative failure and that the measures that directly affected the vulnerable categories are heavily taxed, although the PSD was in government when it approved the cuts.
