Romania's men's team has qualified for the round of 16 at the World Championship, where they can face the title holder

Iulian Chiriță (20 years old), Ovidiu Ionescu (36 years old) and Eduard Ionescu (21 years old) beat Poland 3-2 in the round of 16 of the World Team Championship in London and will fight for a place in the “quarters” with the winner of the China-Australia meeting.

The World Team Championship in London has reached the second phase, that of the elimination meetings, where 32 representatives out of the 64 present at the start have access.

The Romanian men's team, European vice-champion, met the Polish national team on Monday evening, in OVO Arena Wembley. The two teams are separated by three places in the world ranking, the tricolors being 14th and their opponents 17th.

Romania showed up for the “sixteenth” match with three victories in phase 1B, where it prevailed in the 9th group. Poland also played in this phase, also collecting three successes and being the first in the 12th group.

Iulian Chiriță, two points for Romania

The confrontation on the main board was a tense one, with cards and delicate moments. The “Tricolori” also had a gallery, the first names of those who entered the table being shouted at length.

Iulian Chiriță opened the match against Milosz Redzimski, led 2-0, but then was equalized, ultimately winning 3-2. During this match, Milosz Redzimski received first a yellow card, then a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The second confrontation was between Eduard Ionescu and Marek Badowski, and the Romanian could not find himself, losing in three sets.

Romania took the lead again thanks to Ovidiu Ionescu's clear victory over Maciej Kubik, 3-1.

Eduard Ionescu led 2-0 in the match with Milosz Redzimski, but lost the next three, sending the match into the decisive match. Iulian Chiriță and Marek Badowski met there. The young Romanian won 3-0, taking Romania to the round of 16.

Romania's opponent will be decided on Tuesday, when China faces Australia. China is the world champion of the last eleven editions, it occupies the first place in the world hierarchy, but in phase 1A, in group 1, it lost two meetings, to Sweden and South Korea, reaching the middle of the table.

At the previous edition in which there was a team competition, Busan 2024, the male representative of Romania stopped in the sixteenth final, being defeated by China. The record of the tricolors includes two medals, one silver in 1936 and one bronze in 1956.
