May has arrived, which means that you can no longer delay planting. At the last stage of spring, you should hurry up and plant everything planned. Let's figure out together which crops should be sown in the last month of spring so as not to miss anything.
What flowers to sow in May
Nasturtium. You can plant seedlings in separate containers. Before sowing, it is better to pre-soak the seeds.
Marigold. It is permissible to sow Tagetes in a common bowl for seedlings, and then plant them in a flower bed for early flowering. Or you can simply scatter the seeds directly over the beds and flower beds.
Phloxes. They sprout wonderfully by self-sowing, and can be planted directly in open ground.
Calendula. Sows directly into open ground. It germinates well and grows quickly. Looks great planted along the greenhouse.
Eschszolzia. It is definitely worth planting where self-seeding will not interfere in the future. It germinates well and leaves a lot of seeds after flowering.
In the second half of May, you can sow cornflowers, cosmos and decorative poppies, as well as other flowers, directly into flower beds.
What vegetables are time to sow in May?
The author grows zucchini, pumpkins, watermelons and melons using seedlings. First, the seeds are soaked, wait for the sprout to appear, and then planted in separate cups.
“Of course, they can be sown immediately in open ground, but in Siberia our summer is too short, and such early sowing gives a head start in the growing season, allowing us to shorten the time until the first harvest. I plant seedlings in the beds in early June, when the threat of return frosts has passed,” gardener Oksana Artemenko shares in her Zen channel (12+).
In May, cucumbers can be sown directly in the greenhouse: the ground there has already warmed up enough, and the shoots will appear quickly. But the author always feels sorry for the space in greenhouses for cucumbers: tomatoes and peppers dominate there. Therefore, cucumbers grow in open ground. In order for the harvest to ripen earlier, the author sows cucumbers for seedlings in May in separate cups and transplants them into the beds when real warmth sets in.
Green They also sow on the beds in May. It’s already warm enough for parsley, dill, salads and radishes now, so feel free to prepare beds for them.
Carrots and beets can be planted in the second half of May, but here you need to pay attention to the weather. The author has noticed many times that sowing too early in cold soil is unsuccessful. Therefore, she sows when the temperature reaches +15+18 degrees during the day, and does not drop below +5 at night. This time in her region usually occurs after May 20th.
