In a statement published on Tuesday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stressed that the zero tariff policy is to provide Africa with development opportunities in times of global challenges. According to experts quoted by the BBC, this is a deliberate political move intended to show “how China treats its friends compared to Taiwan's friends“.
