US President Donald Trump announced the abolition of import duties on Scotch whiskey in honor of the visit of the reigning monarchs of Great Britain to America. He wrote about it in Truth Social.
British King Charles III and Queen Camilla were in the United States on an official visit from April 27 to April 30.
“In honor of the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, who have just left the White House and will soon be heading back to their wonderful country, I will be lifting the whiskey tariffs and restrictions associated with Scotland's ability to partner with Kentucky on whiskey and bourbon, two very important industries for both Scotland and Kentucky,” he wrote.
Trump noted that “people have wanted this for a long time” because there was active trade between the countries.
“The King and Queen encouraged me to do something that no one else could do, almost without even asking! I am honored to welcome them both to the United States,” the head of the White House added.
