Drug seizure on Autostrada Soarelui. More than 11 kilograms of cannabis, discovered on a young man who was going to sell them on the seaside

A 25-year-old man, with dual Romanian-Syrian citizenship, was detained for 24 hours by DIICOT prosecutors, after he was caught red-handed on the A2 highway with over 11 kilograms of cannabis in his car. The drugs were to reach the seaside, where they would have been sold to consumers on the May 1st mini-vacation.

The measure of detention was ordered on Friday, May 1, 2026, in a file aimed at committing the crime of high-risk drug trafficking, according to a statement sent by the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

The investigators specified that the suspect was intercepted on Thursday, in the area of ​​the Cernica exit on Autostrada Soarelui, while he was transporting over 11 kilograms of cannabis in his car.

“Research revealed that the banned substance was intended for sale to consumers located on the coast”, the DIICOT prosecutors sent.

Following the flagrant incident, the law enforcement officers went to the suspect's home, where they executed three home search warrants. There, the police discovered another approximately 5 kilograms of cannabis, portioned into ten bags, approximately 25 grams of cannabis resin, as well as three high-precision electronic scales used for the preparation and distribution of drugs.

Several pieces of evidence relevant to the investigation were also seized. According to DIICOT, the prosecutors are going to notify the judge of rights and liberties of the Bucharest Court with the proposal of preventive arrest for 30 days.

The investigation is being carried out together with the policemen of the Bucharest Organized Crime Brigade, and the operation benefited from the support of the Highway Brigade.

The capture comes in the context of the intensification of controls on the main routes to the coast, during the May 1st mini-holiday, a period in which the authorities monitor traffic more closely.
