The ironic reactions of Romanians to the political crisis and the PSD-AUR motion: “This boy with 11 grades is going to decide the fate of the country”

Many Romanians described the political crisis in Romania with sarcasm, showing resignation that regardless of the result of the no-confidence motion that will be debated and voted on May 5, the country's economic situation will not improve.

The political crisis in Romania would end next week, by voting on the no-confidence motion submitted by PSD and AUR against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan.

In the text of the motion signed by PSD-AUR, the Government is accused that the reform of Prime Minister Bolojan is, in reality, an administrative failure and the measures that directly affected the vulnerable categories are heavily taxed.

The motion could lead to the fall of the current Executive, to the renegotiation of the governing coalition or, if it does not gather enough votes, to the maintenance of the Bolojan Government. Another scenario presented by political specialists aims to restore a coalition around PSD, PNL and UDMR, possibly with the participation of USR, but with another prime minister.

Romanians' reactions to the political scandal

The tensions in the governing coalition and the censure motion submitted by the PSD together with the AUR have sparked strong reactions among Romanians. On social networks, the way in which the two parties ended up acting together against the Bolojan Government was commented on intensely, sometimes with disappointment or resignation, but also with ironies towards the politicians. Some Romanians believe that, regardless of the outcome of the motion, the effects of the political crisis will affect the citizens.

“In any case, nothing good will come out of it for the people. We can expect the stock market to crash, the currency to devalue, because investor confidence is decreasing, while political instability is increasing.”says a netizen.

Some Romanians accuse PSD and AUR of triggering the political crisis, while others believe that the Bolojan Government did not bode well for them.

“Was the goal reforms or tax increases in general and punches in the mouth given to the population and the private environment?“, notes an internet user.

Ironies on account of the choices made by Romanians

Other comments focused on the role of parliamentarians from the sovereignist parties, who could have a decisive influence on the outcome of the motion.

“This boy with 11 grades, an “Academic Singles” graduate and a record, is going to decide the fate of the country in the days to come.” ironically noted a user of the Reddit platform, in a comment in which he refers to the senator Paul-Ciprian Pintea, elected in 2024 on the lists of the Party of Young People.

How did the political crisis come about and what are the likely scenarios. “We will see a reiteration of the governing coalition: PSD, PNL, UDMR and probably USR”

The message gathered numerous reactions, and some Romanians accused the political parties of acting against the population, even in difficult moments. Others, on the other hand, argued that voters should own up to the political choices of recent years.

“Between parliamentarians and citizens there is not really a democratic link, in which the parliamentarian is accountable to the voters, and the voters are educated and responsible for their own choices. Moreover, I am afraid that only a small number of Romanians have and knew what each of the members of the list of parliamentarians proposed by each party does in the elections”. noted another netizen.

A Romanian declares himself convinced that, even if a party with the most correct and competent people in Romania appeared, it would still not receive more than 15-20% of the Romanians' votes.

“This is democracy: the vote of an academician, economist or expert in geopolitics is equal to the vote of a social worker”, someone else adds.

Many Romanians interested in politics commented ironically on the possibility that Romania will have a new prime minister, if the no-confidence motion leads to the fall of the Government.

Some are of the opinion that Ilie Bolojan will be sacrificed politically, and in his place will be appointed a prime minister who is more obedient and easier to control by the parties.

“Bolojan leaves and a puppy comes in his place, and as if by a miracle, the great pro-European coalition will be restored, on paper”comments one user.

The new prime minister could even be the politician Călin Georgescu, someone else thinks.

“That place is intended for the supreme leader, the Geto-Dacian emperor, the misunderstood genius and elected president Călin Georgescu”, he comments ironically.

President Nicușor Dan, “taxed” by the Romanians

Even the president Nicușor Dan was not spared by the ironies of internet users.

“Does the neutral mediator realize that after Bolojan leaves, he will be next?”, asks a netizen.

Some Romanians believe that the scenario of impeachment of the president will be extremely difficult to implement. Others, on the other hand, claim that Nicușor Dan would not survive a referendum.

“He managed to piss off a lot of his voter base and didn't win over others. I voted for him because I had no choice, but in an eventual referendum I'm putting the stamp on taking him down. He's had a first year in office that makes Iohannis look super boyish by comparison.” someone else adds.

Other Romanians look at the political scene in a more conspiratorial way, considering that the tensions between the leaders are, often, only the visible part of some negotiations conducted in secret.

“Nicusor Dan and George Simion have worked together before and it will be painful for some when they realize that they still have the same interests. We only see the side they want us to see. Politics is played behind the scenes”claims a netizen.
