The 73-year-old man who fell on the escalators in Bistrita died at the hospital

The 73-year-old man, who fell in the underground pedestrian passage in Bistrita municipality, died in hospital eight days after the incident. He fell down the escalators, together with his wife, and was hospitalized in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Bistrita County Emergency Clinical Hospital.

The accident took place on April 21. Witnesses reported that the two pensioners were on the escalators, and at one point, his wife lost her balance and fell down the stairs. Her husband tried to help her, but he also lost his balance and fell.
The 71-year-old woman suffered several contusions and scratches, being discharged on the same day of the accident, with medical recommendations.
According to the representatives of the medical unit, the man was intubated, mechanically ventilated and sedated throughout the hospitalization, but his condition remained serious, without favorable developments. The death occurred on Wednesday afternoon, according to agerpres.
“When the crews arrived at the scene of the request, one victim, a man, was in cardiorespiratory arrest, the resuscitation protocol was applied to him and fortunately the man's body responded to the applied maneuvers. The other victim, a woman, has trauma to the lower and upper limbs. Both victims will be transported to the hospital for further medical care”transmitted on that date, ISU Bistrita-Năsăud.
Following the incident, the local authorities decided to suspend access to the escalators in the underground passage, inaugurated in January of this year near the city's food market and later equipped with such equipment to facilitate pedestrian access.
The police are continuing their investigation into a criminal case opened for culpable bodily harm and culpable homicide to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.
