Grindeanu: “The president understood his role as a mediator”. What does he say about the option of Nicușor Dan's suspension?

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu stated, on Antena 3, that there is no reason for his party to consider suspending Nicușor Dan from the position of President of Romania. Grindeanu specified that, until now, Nicușor Dan has not presented any scenario for solving the current government crisis.

Asked what relationship he currently has with President Nicușor Dan, Sorin Grindeanu answered:

“Nothing that goes beyond the constitutional framework (…) Unlike others, he understood his role as a mediator. We have a prime minister who did not understand that he is the prime minister of a coalition.”

“Respect the limits given by the Constitution”

Grindeanu said that, in the discussions he had with the president, he did not come up with a solution to the current political crisis, which would have been difficult given that the censure motion initiated by PSD and AUR has not yet been put to a vote in Parliament.

“It respects the limits given by the Constitution and it would have been the height to discuss things based on scenarios that might not be true,” said the PSD leader.

When asked if the PSD is considering suspending the president, a possibility mentioned by Ilie Bolojan, Grindeanu said:

“This is one of the biggest lies told by Prime Minister Bolojan. In any case, there is no reason to discuss suspensions of the president. I will not agree to such a thing and neither will my colleagues. It is an attempt to export the scandal.”

Reply to Bolojan's statements

In an interview for Rock FM, Ilie Bolojan said that the suspension of President Nicușor Dan at PSD's initiative is not excluded, answering a question on this topic. Bolojan said such a scenario is “possible”.

“The way I saw things unfolded in recent years, including with the current leadership of the PSD, actions like this would be possible and I would not trust the leadership of the PSD, because, through everything they did during this period, through the lies they circulated in the public space, through the lack of responsibility, through the double standard and through the double language, you cannot rely on such statements.”

The Prime Minister said that he makes this statement taking into account everything that has happened so far.

“Mr. Grindeanu went to Brussels and has his declarations that there will be no collaboration with AUR. And today, by what is happening, this declaration is totally invalidated. And so on. We can take many situations like this and, as I told you, you cannot rely on such commitments”, explained the PNL leader.
