The director of Corriere dello Sport had a public reaction after the first semi-final story of this season in the Champions League. PSG – Bayern 5-4. Ivan Zazzaroni's post on his Instagram account sparked many comments for and against Inter's Romanian coach.
The Italian pundit challenged the fans with the following reflection: “Given that PSG – Bayern was very entertaining, showing once again the superior quality of the players, I ask you “if Chivu had been in Luis Enrique's place, and at 5-2, with the final already secured, he would have finished the match 5-4, questioning qualification, wouldn't we have destroyed him?. The strategy, however small it may be…”,
The reactions were divided, between approvals, criticisms and reproaches towards the technician almost champion in Serie A in his debut season at the Nerazzurri. Enough referred to the premature elimination suffered by Inter in the Champions League play-off against Bodo/Glimt (2-5 overall).
“To understand how weak we are, think that in just a few years Norwegian football has definitely surpassed Italy!”
“We are a culturally backward country. I really don't think the French press destroyed Luis Enrique because he conceded two goals from 5-2. We will talk about a PSG that scored five goals against Bayern, but at this level it is normal to concede four. If you lose 5-4 or 1-0, it doesn't matter.
Unfortunately, in Italy they go for defensive solidity, even at the cost of watching drowsy matches without shots on goal. In addition to the enormous economic gap with these superpowers, there is a huge cultural difference.

To understand how weak we are, think that in a few years even Norwegian football has definitely surpassed us. Look at Italy in the final qualifiers against Norway or Inter in the Champions League. A team that dominates the championship in Italy gets five goals in Europe from Bodo… That says it all…,” was the most extensive comment.
Another added: “Comparing the best coach with Chivu already seems an insult to me. Having said that, I ask another question «If Inter had another coach on the bench instead of Chivu, would they still have won the championship?» My answer is yes.”
“If Chivu had coached Bodo would they have reached the final?”
“With the way he reads the game, we would have destroyed him because it would have finished 5-6! I'm obsessed with Inter too!” jeered a third. Supported by another ironic fan: “But if Chivu had coached the Bodo Glimt guys, would they have reached the final?”
“Of course! In Italy, we only know how to criticize! Beauty for its own sake is never appreciated!” and “Are we sure Bayern couldn't have scored two goals anyway with those qualities of players, both technical and tactical?” there were other opinions in support of the particular strength shown by the Bavarians on the “Parc des Princes”.

There were also positions against the “demolition” of the coach: “No, because, in the end, we would have had no way of not conceding goals from Bayern, which is objectively (this year) the best team in Europe. Of course, reasoning with the Italian mentality, that after 1-0 we have to defend with 28 men…”.
Chivu's side would never score five goals against Bayern in less than an hour. I'm sure we would have destroyed them, but that doesn't mean we would have done it rightly.
– Comment from an Italian fan
“The comparison doesn't hold, as PSG has already won the trophy and impressed over time, regardless of how many goals they conceded… So what journalist would have the courage to “destroy” the coach?” wrote another. On the same note, another laconic observation: “No, because if Chivu had been there it would have been 5-10!”
