Prisoner exchange. Poland released the Russian, Ukraine reacts

“Ukraine was saddened to learn that, contrary to the earlier, completely correct decision of the Polish court, a Russian citizen against whom there are reasonable suspicions of committing a crime on the territory of Ukraine, in particular of exporting cultural goods from Crimea, was not extradited to Ukraine,” said the spokesman of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoted by the Ukrainian embassy in Poland.

The representative of the Ukrainian ministry pointed out that “it is obvious that the Russian side will cynically use this political and legal episode to justify the occupation of Crimea and the exploitation of the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.”

The statement also states that “Ukraine consistently demands that all Russian entities that work for occupation and war be brought to real legal responsibility.”

“Regarding the case [Aleksandra] Butyagin and other similar cases, Ukraine will continue to apply appropriate legal mechanisms and act in partner jurisdictions,” the statement said.

Scientist in the service of the Kremlin captured in Poland. The court agreed to extradition

Among the people affected by Tuesday's prisoner exchange between Poland and Belarus, during which Andrzej Poczobut was freed, was, among others, the Russian archaeologist Alexander Butyagin.

In December last year, Aleksander Butiagin was detained by the Internal Security Agency in one of Warsaw's hotels. In March, the District Court in Warsaw agreed to his extradition to Ukraine. A Russian researcher is suspected of destroying priceless archaeological sites in Crimea. He is one of the Kremlin's key collaborators.
The Moldavian Institute of National Remembrance writes that Andrzej Poczobut was exchanged directly for Alexandru Balan. The one from Chisinau was supposed to go to Poland and then to Russia. Balan is the former deputy head of the Moldovan intelligence services, convicted of revealing state secrets.
