US law enforcement agencies have restored the chronology of the movements of Cole Allen, accused of attempted assassination of US President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington. According to CNN, Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche and District of Columbia District Attorney Jeanine Pirro said this at a briefing after the first hearing in Allen's case.
According to law enforcement, he booked a room at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the Association dinner is held every year, on April 6.
- April 21: Allen traveled by train from Los Angeles to Chicago.
- April 23: The suspect arrived in Chicago. He then traveled from Chicago to Washington.
- April 24: Allen arrived in Washington around 1 p.m. local time. Two hours later, the man checked into the Washington Hilton, where he stayed overnight.
- April 25: Around 8:40 p.m. local time, Allen approached a security checkpoint on the terrace level of the Hilton Hotel, which is one floor above the ballroom where the White House Correspondents' Dinner was being held.
Allen then ran through the metal detector “while holding a long gun,” Blanche testified. He added that US Secret Service officers at the checkpoint “heard a loud shot” as Allen ran through the frame.
Secret Service agent, added acting. Attorney General, “shot Allen five times” – after which the suspect fell “and was immediately arrested.” The AP wrote that at the court hearing it became known that the defendant was injured during the arrest, although the defendant’s lawyer stated that his client did not receive any serious injuries, only “some kind of scratch” on his knee.
