The decree targets nine men, including one born in Russia, and the other eight in the Republic of Moldova.
“Persons who held and continue to hold various positions within the so-called unconstitutional entities on the left side of the Dniester. At the same time, two of those targeted fought on the side of the separatists in the war on the Dniester in 1992”emphasized the officials of the Presidential Administration from Chisinau.
The withdrawal of citizenship was initiated by the Public Services Agency (ASP), the process being started after the Information and Security Service (SIS) notified the institution regarding particularly serious acts committed by the nine individuals who harmed the interests of the Republic of Moldova.
“Revocation of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova is a form of sanction for the exercise of functions within the unconstitutional structures on the left of the Dniester, for continuous actions to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, as well as for serious violations of the rights of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. These facts were committed in the interest of a foreign state that violates the neutrality of our country and conducts a war of aggression against the neighboring state of Ukraine. The withdrawal of citizenship is a measure provided for by law, applied in cases where the fundamental interests of the Republic of Moldova are affected”detailed Stanislav Secrieru, presidential advisor in the field of national security.
Meanwhile, the Presidency from Chisinau emphasizes that “respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the state constitute fundamental principles that cannot be violated. The authorities will continue to act firmly, in strict accordance with the law, to protect the constitutional order and the national interest”.

And in August of the same year, five other people from the Republic of Moldova, who enlisted in the Russian troops in the separatist region of Transnistria, were left without citizenship based on the decree signed by President Maia Sandu.
