Fraudsters in the Krasnoyarsk Territory began to use complex deception scenarios more often

MTS has analyzed fraudulent calls from subscribers in the Krasnoyarsk Territory since the beginning of 2026.
The total number of such calls has decreased by almost half compared to the same period last year. However, criminals are increasingly using personalized scenarios with increased psychological pressure. Scammers often build a whole chain of calls to gain trust.
“Every year, fraudsters use more and more sophisticated deception schemes, but the means of protection against attackers are becoming more and more high-tech. Thus, our product “Defender” this year identified and blocked 523 million unwanted calls throughout the country,” said Sergei Yegoshin, director of MTS in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
The main target is people over 55 years old. They account for more than 80% of all multi-stage attacks. Fraudulent calls are received primarily from Monday to Wednesday. Peak activity occurs at 10:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00. During these hours, children and youth are at school, adults are at work, and pensioners are often left alone at home. Attackers take advantage of a person's workload or isolation to catch him by surprise.
Often, scammers start schemes with offers of additional income and profitable investments – such calls account for more than half of all fraudulent attacks. There is also a continuing trend of calls on behalf of government agencies, utilities, post offices and pension funds.
